What is Covered Under the Travel Insurance in India?

Although travel insurance policies come with wide coverage, they do have certain exclusions. Every insurer sets a list of exclusions including conditions which the company will not provide compensation for. Since the exclusions are not the same for every financial institution, you must check the exclusion list of an NBFC from which you are looking to buy the travel cover.

List of things which are usually not covered under a travel insurance plan

The exclusions under a travel cover are as follows-

  1. Natural disasters - Many companies do not provide compensations for trips cancelled because of natural calamity like a cyclone, flood, etc. For instance, if you cancel your flight's tickets for bad weather predictions, the insurer will not provide compensation.

  2. Reckless behaviour - Accidents occurring due to the individual’s negligence and reckless behaviour are generally not compensated by the insurance providers. Only if an accident takes place out of natural circumstances or third-party fault, the company will provide the assured sum as compensation.

  3. Exploring prohibited areas - The insurer is unlikely to provide you with compensation for any mishaps occurring while exploring territories forbidden by the Government of India.

  4. Adventure sports - Travel insurance plans often do not cover risks attached included in adventure sports. If you are planning to try adventure sports on your trip, you must opt for specific insurance plans which cover such activities.

Certain companies might also have some medical conditions included in the exclusion list, which they do not cover.

However, the list of inclusions in a travel cover usually outweighs its exclusions. A comprehensive insurance plan for travel mishaps provides financial assistance for almost every possible trouble during a holiday. One must select a financial institution that offers the maximum benefits to its customers.
