Steps to Apply for Duplicate PAN Card

PAN card is important for Income Tax payment, selling or purchasing a house or a plot, buying gold jewellery over Rs.5 lakh, depositing the investable amount in financial institutions of value exceeding Rs.50,000 and lot more. One needs to immediately apply for a duplicate PAN card if lost or misplaced.

Steps to apply for duplicate PAN card

The immediate step that needs to be taken is to file an FIR and get an acknowledgement letter of the same. Then –

Step 1- In the official website of TIN-NSDL select the “Changes or correction in existing PAN data/Reprint of PAN Card” in “Application Type” menu.

Step 2- Enter all the information asked and submit. A token number will be generated which needs to be kept for future reference.

Step 3- After clicking on continue at the “PAN application form” page, new information needs to be entered to the redirected page.

Step 4- Submission of the documents –

  • Submitting scanned images through e-sign- Photograph, signature and other documents needs to be uploaded. Following this an OTP will be sent to the registered phone number.

NOTE- Aadhaar is mandatory for the process. 

Step 5- Select whether one needs a physical or e-PAN and enter the document details on the next page.

Step 6- After providing all the relevant information needed in the declaration part, click on submit and clear all the necessary payments. 

Time required for the PAN card to arrive

Generally after you apply for a duplicate PAN card; it takes 2 weeks to deliver via post in case of domestic distribution.

It is advised to inform TIN-NSDL authorities if one loses their PAN card with all the FIR details and apply for a duplicate PAN card. An individual can consider purchasing insurance plans such as wallet care insurance policy to benefit from financial coverage against lost or misplaced PAN card or other payment cards including debit as well as credit cards.
