Everything you Need to Know about FASTag

Introduced in December of 2019 by the Government of India, FASTag is a rechargeable tag for vehicles. Individuals trying to understand what is FASTag should note that this is mandatory for every car, be it private or commercial. While in simplest terms this tag is used to pay toll on highways without any hassle, following features of it should also be noted.

  • Convenient payment: Among its features and benefits, foremost is that of the convenience of toll payment. With the implementation of these tags, vehicles do not have to wait in a queue to pay their toll on highways. Instead, the toll is directly deducted once a vehicle crosses a toll plaza, saving both time and manpower.

  • Discounts: Similar to various online payment options, FASTag also provides cashback and other discounts. Currently, vehicle owners can avail up to 10% cashback on their first one-year usage of FASTag.

  • Easy tracking: These tags are directly linked with a vehicle owner’s phone number. Consequently, every transaction and toll payment is easily tracked and recorded via SMS.

  • Online recharge: Vehicle owners can easily recharge their FASTag using any online payment method of their choice, including net banking, credit/debit card payment, UPI, etc.

Once a vehicle owner has understood what FASTag is, he/she should also note how to acquire it. While this tag itself can be bought from select branches of certified financial institutions and toll plazas, individuals can also buy them online. Once bought, these tags can also be activated online using the “My FASTag” mobile app.

While going on a road trip, it is necessary for car owners to have a FASTag installed if they have not done so yet. Likewise, it is also essential to avail a road trip travel insurance policy to avail financial protection against several incidents.
